The christening of Green Coaster Shipping's inaugural vessel, Stellamar, took place in its hometown of Ystad on August 30. The traditional ceremony was given a unique twist as Stella Rowland and Stella Passinen, daughters of prominent figures from Green Coaster Shipping's pool partner AtoB@C Shipping and Metsä Group, were given the honor of naming the ship.
“It was an honour to participate in the christening ceremony of Stellamar - a new generation vessel that shall carry products to customers of Metsä Group in a more environmentally friendly way”, says Veli-Matti Passinen, Vice President of Logistics at Metsä Group.
”As a Ystad-based company, it was a very special feeling to host this ceremony here, witnessed by our employees, stakeholders and a large number of locals”, says Frida Rowland, Commercial Director at AtoB@C Shipping and ESL Shipping.
Stellamar is a cutting-edge vessel that emits up to 50% less CO2 compared to the previous generation of ships, thanks to innovative features such as shore power connectivity, significant battery installation, and improved cargo intake. These advancements not only help reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also ensure quieter and cleaner operations while docked.
It is designed to transport various bulk and breakbulk products, including steel, forest products, fertilizers, and project cargoes. The vessel features a long, unobstructed deck, allowing for loading more deck cargo and longer project cargoes than the current vessels in the fleet.
Green Coaster Shipping will continue to expand its fleet later this year with Aquamar, while the production of the fifth vessel, Astramar, began in July with a steel-cutting ceremony.
